An incident has come to light in which two employees of Jyoti Bikas Bank were beaten up and abused by applying smoky paint to Saptakoshi Integrated Agro Farm Pvt. Ltd., located in Odraha, Saptakoshi Municipality-7, Saptari, after they had gone to talk to a borrower.

Last Wednesday, the bank's provincial office deputy manager Sumit Shrestha and Rupani branch employee Sabin Shrestha had reached there for a dialogue. A video of the two being beaten up and abused by shareholders of the company and others is now going viral on social media. When they reached there, they were seen being beaten up and beaten with sticks.

Bank's information officer Prakash Baral said that the employees who had gone to discuss how to regularize the installments were beaten up in a planned manner. 'The shareholders of the company and their relatives have done a lot of work to weaken the morale of the employees by beating them up and abusing them,' he said. 'We are in legal proceedings against that.'

Pvt. Ltd. had taken a loan of Rs 45 million from the bank on Baisakh 23, 2078. When taking out the loan, 3 bighas and 14 katthas of land in the same place in the name of the Pvt. Ltd. and 16 katthas and 8 dhurs of land in Kanchanrup Municipality-12 were pledged as collateral. However, when the Pvt. Ltd. did not pay the installment after 28 Chaitra, 2081, the bank issued a notice to auction the land last Friday.

The shareholders of the Pvt. Ltd. became angry after the bank advertised the land for sale on TikTok before the notice expired. At the same time, they smeared moss on the bank employees who arrived last Wednesday, abused and beat them.

‘We could have paid off the loan by the last minute! But when the notice period expired and the advertisement for the sale of land began, the shareholders and the locals associated with the organization got angry and that is why the incident occurred,’ said Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary, a shareholder of the Pvt. Ltd., ‘I was in Rajbiraj, by the time I reached there, the incident had already happened, it is wrong to beat up the employees.’

After the incident, the bank has filed a complaint against 7 people at the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur for kidnapping, hostage-taking, assault and robbery. The complaint has been filed against shareholders Prabhunarayan Chaudhary, Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, his wife Rita Kumari Chaudhary, sons Siraj Chaudhary and Panchadev Chaudhary, and debtors and shareholders Umakanta Chaudhary and Rabindra Swarnakar of the company.

‘We have already written for a post-mortem examination,’ said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, ‘The post-mortem report has not been received.’ DSP Kafle said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
