A tiger cub has been found in the Sabiya Partnership Forest Area in Parsagarhi Municipality. The technical team of the National Trust for Nature Conservation Chitwan Office found the cub during a monitoring exercise on Thursday.

Manzoor Ahmed, head of the Parsa office, said that the team saw a cub on Thursday while monitoring a possible tiger area. “The team has also taken a picture of the cub,” he said. “The technical team has estimated that a tigress is nursing four cubs in that area.”

The fund team had gone to install cameras on Wednesday to monitor the tigers, assuming that the tigers have been here for a month. But when the team reached there, the tiger roared loudly, so the team returned without installing the cameras. The cub was found when the same team went on a surveillance mission on Thursday with the necessary preparations and equipment.

The technicians have estimated that one cub got separated from the other three cubs and the mother. “The mother tigress may have taken the other cubs elsewhere and one may have gotten separated from the same group,” said Ahmed.

A local woman, Shantamaya Shrestha, who had gone to cut grass in the same area on Monday was attacked and seriously injured by a tiger. The technician said that the tigress was tending her cubs in the area and that she might have attacked when there was a human presence there.

'Since the tigress was tending her cubs, it does not seem appropriate to dart her and take her elsewhere,' Ahmed said, 'Information signs and red flags have been placed in the affected area to prevent human presence.' He said that the Parsa National Park administration has been requested to provide elephants for a few days as elephants should be kept regularly to monitor the tiger area if necessary.
