What you should know
To supply water to the tank, the Nepal Drinking Water Corporation Branch Office, Rajbiraj, spent more than one crore rupees to construct an industrial area pump station in Maleth, Rajbiraj Municipality-9, Saptari. However, not even a single liter of drinking water has been supplied in 6 years.
The institute had constructed deep boring there at a cost of Rs 36,33,476 in 2077/078 and a pump operator quarter, toilet, septic tank and compound wall at a cost of Rs 59,2,871 in 2078/079. The institute has also spent Rs 600,000 on electrification including transformer connection. However, the pump station, which was built at a total cost of Rs 11,136,347, has not yet been operational.
The motor itself has burnt out during the deep boring test, and the filter has also been removed as the plan there will not be successful. An employee who was appointed on a wage basis on 2078 Pus 14 to maintain the pump station said that they are earning their salary in the heat.
The corporation, which has 3,408 consumers, is currently supplied with 4 million liters of water daily from the corporation's premises, Padariya, Kharsal and deep borings in the Nepal Telecom premises. However, even after filtering 25 percent of the supplied water, only 3.2 million liters remain distributable for drinking water due to the iron-rich waste. Currently, even though the water is being left in the tap for 5.5 hours daily in the morning, afternoon and evening, it is not enough for the consumers. Despite consumers' demands to increase the time for releasing water in the tap, the constructed pump station has not been able to operate.
The head of the corporation, Rajbiraj, Dipendra Dev said that the pipes could not be laid because it was not clear how many lanes the Maleth-Rajbiraj road section under construction would be expanded. "The pump station has not been able to operate due to the failure to lay the pipes, and water has not been supplied to the tanks," he said. "We are trying to lay the pipes and operate them this year."
