Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has resigned from his post after the Supreme Court issued a mandate to seek a vote of confidence within 24 hours. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister during the meeting of the Provincial Assembly after seeing no chance of getting a vote of confidence.

Yadav was appointed as the Chief Minister by the then Provincial Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari as the largest party in accordance with Article 168(3) of the Constitution.

When Chief Minister Yadav sought a vote of confidence, seven opposition parties did not attend the Provincial Assembly meeting. The opposition bench was completely empty. Only UML MPs were present in the meeting. Kanchan Bichha, who became a minister from the RPP, and Bimala Ansari Turunnam, who became a minister from the Nepal Federal Socialist Party, were also present in the meeting.

'My appointment is binding. Therefore, there is no question of taking a vote of confidence or not,' Chief Minister Yadav said before resigning, 'For as long as we were in government, we only did the work of the people.'
