Madhesh Chief Minister Yadav to seek vote of confidence on Wednesday

Madhesh Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav is set to take a vote of confidence on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Yadav, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, said that even though the Supreme Court had ordered him to take a vote of confidence within 24 hours, he would take the vote of confidence at 2 pm on Wednesday as he received the mandate letter only at 3 pm on Tuesday. He informed that a letter has been sent to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat to take the vote of confidence.

'I will get the vote of confidence. UML has appointed whoever is the Chief Minister in Madhesh. All those parties support me,' he said.

On Monday, the Supreme Court had issued a mandate in the name of Chief Minister Yadav to take the vote of confidence within 24 hours.

Yadav was appointed Chief Minister as the leader of the UML parliamentary party, the largest party in the Provincial Assembly. Even though other parties urged him to form a government based on majority, the then Chief Sumitra Bhandari had appointed Yadav as Chief Minister. After a dispute arose over this, the President removed the Provincial Chief Bhandari from his post on the recommendation of the federal government.

74 members of the provincial assembly had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the appointment of Chief Minister Yadav. In the writ petition, the Supreme Court had earlier also given an interim order not to make a decision that would have long-term implications.
