Today's hearing in Kalyanpur mayor's bribery case postponed

The hearing of the case in which Rampukar Sah, the then mayor of Kalyanpur Municipality in Siraha, was caught red-handed with a bribe of Rs 100,000 has been postponed.

 

The hearing scheduled for Monday at the special court in Kathmandu has been postponed . According to the court, the case was scheduled for hearing in bench number two today . However, the hearing was postponed as per the demand of the defendant's private and government lawyers, said court spokesperson Krishna Sharan Lamichhane.

The government lawyer claimed that the hearing was postponed due to technical reasons . Sarita Pokharel, information officer of the special government lawyer's office, said, 'It had to be postponed due to technical reasons .'

This case was previously scheduled for hearing on Mangsir 30.  However, the hearing was postponed at the request of the defendant's private lawyer .

A team of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority caught Sah red-handed from the office on Asad 32 while he was receiving a cheque for payment for the completion of the drain construction project in Ward No. 6.  after taking a bribe of one lakh rupees from a representative of the consumer committee.

After investigation, the CIAA had filed a case against Sah in a special court on July 23, alleging that he had taken Rs 100,000 as a bribe from a service recipient for the purpose of making payments.

The Commission has demanded a fine of Rs 100,000 and imprisonment under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
