Aniruddha Lal Dev, 54, of Kharsal Tole, Rajbiraj Municipality-7, Saptari, met with a road accident on Asoj 10.

Dev, who was seriously injured after being hit by an unregistered motorcycle, was admitted to Golden Hospital Biratnagar for treatment. However, he is still in the hospital after a month of recovery because he could not pay the treatment expenses.

He was walking to his in-laws' house on foot when he met with a road accident in Sadepar, Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality-8 in the district. His 50-year-old wife Parmila Devi and 30-year-old son Rambhajan Dev, who received the news over the phone, reached there and took him to the hospital for treatment.

The financially poor family has so far paid Rs 110,000 to the hospital and Rs 98,000 for medicine by borrowing and lending money from neighbors and relatives. However, Rambhajan said that the hospital still has Rs 500,000 and Rs 72,000 for medicine due to the surgery on his head, so he could not get his father discharged.

'My father was shifted to the general ward on Kartik 11 itself.' The doctor had said that he would be discharged within 3/4 days, but there was no money to pay the bill,' he said, 'Even after returning home for a month, he still hasn't been able to afford it.' The mother and son are now roaming around to raise money for the treatment. 'Despite appealing for help from everywhere, only 48,000 rupees have been collected,' Rambhajan said, 'The hospital is also willing to make a concession, but at least two hundred thousand rupees should have been collected.' He said that he was saddened by having to leave his father stranded in the hospital. 'If he had had land, he would have sold it to raise the treatment expenses, but there was no other option,' he said, 'I came home saying that I would return in 2/3 days, but even after a month, I couldn't return.'

Hospital representative Raju Yadav said that he would only respond after understanding the details of the injured.
