A corruption case has been filed against 10 people, including the then mayor of the municipality, Ram Udgar Goit, on charges of irregularities in the filling of soil and construction of a pier at the edge of a pond in Lagma Bazaar of Kamala Municipality, Dhanusha.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case in a special court on Thursday, including Goit, as defendants. According to the spokesperson of the Authority, Rajendra Kumar Poudel, the amount has been fixed at Rs 29,44,137, and the demand for imprisonment and fine and recovery of the embezzled amount has been made.
According to the Authority, the then mayor of the municipality, Birendra Kumar Sadhan, the then acting chief administrative officer of Kamala Municipality, Sanjeev Kumar Mahato, the accountant (five) and Jugal Kishore Yadav, the then executive members of the municipality, Dhaneshwor Yadav, Dharmanath Mandal, Paltu Kawari, Binod Ram and Shamsul Mia Momin, and the chairman of the contractor Infrastructure S & B Builders Pvt. Ltd. Santosh Kumar Yadav have been made defendants in the case. The amount has been fixed at the amount that would have been higher after it was revealed that the contract was awarded to Yadav's company, which had bid higher than the lowest bidder.
The mayor, 3 other employees, 5 members of the executive and the contractor have been paid separately.
In the contract called for the fiscal year 2076/77, 42 lakh 74 thousand 551 was not given to the bidders but 72 lakh 21 thousand 630 were given to Yadav's company.
After that, a complaint was filed with the authority and an investigation revealed irregularities in collusion.
