After the police opened fire, the smugglers fled towards India, leaving behind 4 Indian motorcycles they had used.
The smugglers, who were bringing the goods to Nepal on a tractor covered with tarpaulin, fled towards India with the tractor, said Krishnadev Prasad Sah, Police Inspector of the Area Police Office, Simraungadh.
‘When two intelligence policemen saw the loaded tractor entering Nepal, they tried to take it under control, but the smugglers fired 2 rounds, after which the police fired 7 rounds,’ he said. ‘After that, the smugglers fled towards India with the tractor.’
The police have recovered 2 Android mobiles with 2 Indian SIM cards that the smugglers had dropped while fleeing. He said that they had received a secret information that cashews were being brought in on the tractor. ‘We mobilized the police after receiving information that there was a marijuana warehouse on the border. But while trying to find the trail of marijuana, we came across another smuggler,' he said, 'There were about 20/25 smugglers.'
Police Inspector Sah said that further investigation into the incident is underway as a driving license in the name of Indian citizen Ranjit Kumar was also recovered. According to him, 54 kg of marijuana was seized on the same route on November 1 while it was being transported on a bike towards India.
