Simara incident: Verbal agreement between Gen-G and District Security Committee

What you should know

A six-point agreement was reached between the District Security Committee and Gen-G on Friday regarding the situation arising from the clash between Gen-G and UML cadres in Simara, Bara on Wednesday.

The verbal agreement was reached after the security committee agreed to the demands of Gen-G during the talks held at the Armed Police Technical School in Pathlaiya and pledged to implement the demands. Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra said that the agreements reached during the talks would be implemented as soon as possible.

Gen-G has also warned that if the police administration does not show any plan to fulfill the agreed issues by Monday (within four days), it will protest again on the fifth day, Tuesday.

Gen-G had made 6 demands in the talks. Sudan Gurung, Purushottam Yadav, Shiva Yadav and local Gen-Gs from Simara, Samrat Upadhyay, Kapil Kharel, among others, participated in the talks.

In the 6-point demands, they demanded that action be taken against District Police Chief Santosh Tamang and Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Area Police Office, Ved Prakash Joshi, saying that the incident occurred due to the weakness in security. They demanded that strict action be taken against both of them and against the UML cadres who assaulted Gen-G.

Similarly, they had made 6 demands including checking the telephone call details of arrested UML worker Arbind Shah, providing treatment and compensation to the injured Gen-G from the state, adding the names of Nawaraj Basnet and Bishal Lama to the complaint through a supplementary complaint, and guaranteeing Gen-G's safety. The District Security Committee had committed to implementing all these demands.

On Wednesday, a clash broke out between UML workers and Gen-G in Simara. Six Gen-G members were injured during the clash. Taking up the same issues, Gen-G protested and vandalized Simara Airport, set fire to the highway, vandalized the reception gate built by UML, and burned flags.

On Wednesday, a clash broke out between UML Youth Association workers and Gen-G after Gen-G started protesting against UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Politburo member Mahesh Basnet at Simara Chowk, targeting them while they were addressing the Youth Awareness Campaign meeting in Parwanipur. Six youths of Gen-G were injured in the clash.

On behalf of the injured, Gen-G District Coordinator Samrat Upadhyay had filed a complaint against six UML cadres at the Area Police Office. Accordingly, three people have been arrested. The Bara District Court has extended their remand for seven days and an investigation has been launched, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijayraj Pandit, spokesperson of the District Police Office. Simara, which has been in turmoil for two days, has been calm since Friday. There is no curfew, clash, demonstration, or vandalism.
