Teachers, health workers and employees of Agnisair Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality in Saptari, who had been protesting for four months over unpaid salaries, have suspended their protest from Thursday after agreeing to receive their salaries within five days.

The protest was suspended after the acting chairperson of the rural municipality Kalpana Chaudhary and the chief administrative officer Dhirendra Kumar Yadav reached an agreement with them on Wednesday evening.

As per the agreement, teachers, health workers and employees who have been without salaries for four months will be paid their salaries from Shrawan to Poush (6 months) as compensation. The chief administrative officer Yadav said that it was also agreed that the teachers affected by the protest will conduct classes during extra hours. “They will be paid their salaries by Sunday,” he said.

After the agreement, they have restored the school, health post and ward office to normal operation from Thursday. They have not received their salaries since last Shrawan due to the conflict between the people's representatives and have been staging a sit-in in front of the rural municipality office since last Tuesday, stopping services at schools, health posts and ward offices, except for emergencies.
