A criminal nuisance case has been filed against four people who assaulted Dr. Dilip Sah, the acting medical superintendent of Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, Saptari, and vandalized the hospital.
On Sunday evening, an infant was injured after an LED light fell on the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to an electrical short circuit.
Angry relatives assaulted Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. Sah, set fire to a dustbin in the hospital premises, and vandalized the laboratory. The arson and vandalism caused tension in the hospital for some time.
A police team from the District Police Office arrested Uday Thakur, 24, of Rajbiraj Municipality-4, Bineet Chauhan, 24, of the same place, Prameshwor Yadav, 50, of Bishnupur Rural Municipality-6, and Raman Yadav, 25, of the same place, on charges of involvement in the act.
Further investigation is underway after the Saptari District Court granted six-day remand for criminal nuisance against all four, said DSP Dambar Bahadur Puri, spokesperson of the District Police Office. After the assault, arson, and vandalism on Acting Medical Superintendent Dr. Sah, the doctors and health workers of the hospital went on strike.
The doctors, who had also stopped the emergency service for some time on Sunday evening, had also stopped the outpatient service (OPD) on Monday. After the agreement, the outpatient service was operated from Tuesday, said Medical Superintendent Dr. Sah. ‘After the discussion in the presence of the Chief District Officer, we have withdrawn all the protest programs after the agreement that the injured child will be treated by the hospital and those who committed assault, arson and vandalism will be punished according to the law,’ he said, ‘The health condition of the injured child is now good.’
