The response campaign against the cholera epidemic, which was resumed in Parsa from Kartik 13, will be conducted until Kartik 17. The campaign, which was conducted before the Chhath festival, has been continued after Chhath as well.
Jaimod Thakur, the vaccination officer of the District Health Office, Parsa, claimed that with four more days left for the campaign, it will be almost 100 percent successful by the end.
He said that so far, 87 percent of the target group has been vaccinated and the remaining 13 percent have been vaccinated within four days and are working towards the target. Although there is a challenge in achieving the target, he said that there is a possibility of success to a large extent as the team of health workers is continuously deployed.
Although it is easy to achieve the target in other local levels, there is a problem in the district headquarters, Birgunj metropolis, he said. ‘Some people in Birgunj metropolis are still reluctant to get vaccinated,’ he said. ‘We are trying to vaccinate them as much as possible.’ He said that the work of vaccinating such people is being done even though they have to go to their homes.
The campaign was launched again in Parsa after the cholera epidemic response vaccination campaign conducted before Chhath did not achieve complete success. The campaign conducted before Chhath had achieved only 84 percent coverage. During the campaign conducted before Chhath, out of a total target of 652,129 people, only 547,311 people were vaccinated.
The campaign was conducted simultaneously in all 14 local levels of the district, with the highest coverage of 94 percent in Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality and the lowest coverage of 78 percent in Jira Bhawani Rural Municipality.

The Ministry of Health and Population had requested the vaccine from the International Coordination Group on Immunization Management (ICG) to control the cholera outbreak in Birgunj. This campaign is being conducted in Parsa and Bara under the leadership of the Family Welfare Division with the technical support of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
The Euvicol-S vaccine is 82 percent effective two weeks after a single dose. The vaccination campaign was launched after the cholera outbreak that has spread to various areas of Parsa, including Birgunj Metropolitan City, has not been completely controlled since last Bhadra 6. The vaccination campaign is believed to play an important role in protecting the residents of the affected areas from the disease and preventing the epidemic from spreading to other areas.
A total of 1,894 human resources, including 1,544 female health volunteers and 350 health workers, have been mobilized for the campaign.
So far, 1,567 people with diarrhea and cholera have come to various hospitals in Birgunj for treatment, out of which 227 have been confirmed to be infected with cholera. Apart from this, 18 people have also been confirmed to be infected with cholera in Pokhariya Municipality. Tests have not found cholera bacteria in water collected from various places in Birgunj.
