Devnarayan Sah, a couple from Rajbiraj Municipality-7 in Saptari, has been forced to seek justice after his daughter-in-law Kiran Kumari Sah, who is also a member of parliament from Madhesh Province, and his son Binod Kumar Sah kicked him out of their home. The matter came to light after 80-year-old Devnarayan and his 75-year-old wife Shanti Devi posted a video on social media on Tuesday evening.
They have also expressed their grief after being thrown out of the house by their son-in-law. Devnarayan alleges that when they went to the temple on October 20, 2009, he broke the lock of a drawer in the house, took out Rs 125,000 and all the documents of the house and threw them out of the house, abusing them.
‘After taking possession of the documents, the son started saying that he was the owner of the house and started telling them to leave,’ he said. ‘My wife is an MP, no one can do anything, and the son started causing trouble,’ he said.
Devnarayan complained that even when he complained to the police two days after the incident, no one listened.’ ‘The MP’s daughter-in-law also used to abuse his wife and threaten to break her legs when she went to the kitchen,’ said Devnarayan, who is also a former employee. ‘The last time, on Kartik 2, my son came to beat me up and asked me to bring him money. If he didn’t have money, we were forced to leave the house out of fear.’
‘I made my elder brother Binod an engineer and my younger brother Manoj a doctor. Now I have to beg for a living,’ he added. ‘The younger brother lives in Kathmandu, the elder brother kicked me out of the house I built with my own hard work, now we are homeless.’
Kiran, a proportional representation MP from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, claimed that she was unjustly involved in the matter when there was a simple dispute between father and son over cleaning the ‘safety tank’. ‘They went to my uncle’s house for a fraternal quarrel, and after that they didn’t even pick up our phone,’ she said, ‘I didn’t even fight or abuse him, they made undeserved accusations against me in the video.’
Binod accused his father of assaulting him when he asked for money to tidy up the messy house and instead made a video of it public.
‘I usually live in Kathmandu, when I returned for Dashain, I felt bad seeing the smelly and messy everywhere and started tidying up,’ he said, ‘When I asked for money for the same work, my father got angry and assaulted me and has also filed a complaint with the police accusing him of assaulting me.’ He said that his parents are currently at his sister’s house in Rajbiraj and that he returned from Kathmandu after the police called him.
However, DSP Dambar Bahadur Puri, Information Officer of the District Police Office, said that no complaint has been received in the name of Devnarayan Sah.
