Police said the woman was brutally beaten and taken to the provincial hospital in Lahan for treatment, where doctors declared her dead.
A woman has died after being beaten up in Siraha. Nurjahan Khatun, 50, the wife of Sadiq Miyan of Khuttipari Partitol, Lahan Municipality-5, died after being beaten up.
According to DSP Ramesh Bahadur Pal, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Siraha, the deceased woman had set up a small grocery shop on the banks of the Khuti River during Chhath. On Tuesday morning, she went to Shakil's house and complained that local Rijo Khatun's son Mohammad Shakil had stolen goods from the shop.
The police said that the woman was severely beaten and was taken to the provincial hospital in Lahan for treatment, where the doctor declared her dead. The body has been sent to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for postmortem.
The victim's family has filed a complaint with the police against five people, including Mehdi Alam, Nazimun Khatun, Mohammad Shakil, Boliya Khatun and Rijo Khatun. DSP Pal informed that four of them have been taken into custody.
Similarly, the police said that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway, including the search for one absconding person.
