Saptari Police have arrested a member of a gang that defrauded over Rs. 1.4 million through fear and intimidation. The arrested person is 27-year-old Abhishek Kumar Yadav of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-16, Morang. He was arrested near his home last Saturday night.
Yadav and his group had called Manjudevi Shakyasang on WhatsApp on February 21, 2080, threatening her son and demanding money. Manjudevi realized that she had been cheated after depositing Rs. 1.25 million in the bank accounts of various people. They had also called another princess Devisang on February 22, 2011, and cheated her of Rs. 60,000.
The princess's complaint states that her son, who was in Malaysia, was involved in a rape case and was asked to send Rs. 50,000 to the bank to save him. They had also sent a video of her beating a man, so she immediately collected the money and sent Rs. 50,000 out of fear, but even after the group including Yadav called the princess repeatedly and threatened her to send more money. However, when she talked to her son on the phone at that time, the princess, who had been cheated, filed a police report.
On the same day, Yadav and others had cheated Mukesh Kumar Singh's father of Rs 1 lakh by threatening to kill him and throw him away. Mukesh Kumar's complaint states that he called the father and falsely threatened him with the money, saying that he had caught his son while he was being kidnapped and taken away. The caller went missing after collecting the money.
While the investigation into the incident was ongoing, DSP Dambar Bahadur Puri said that Yadav, who was absconding, was arrested and remanded in custody by the Saptari District Court on Sunday. It is said that the search for others is underway and further investigation into the incident is underway.
