Police have arrested a person on charges of using pesticide on bananas.
Manaiya Kumar Rauniyar, 26, of Birgunj-11, was arrested based on a confidential tip-off that bananas kept for sale and distribution at Ghantaghar, Birgunj Metropolitan City-9 had been mixed with pesticides. A police team deployed from the temporary police post Ghantaghar arrested him at 9 pm on Saturday.
He was taken into custody along with about 400 kg of bananas. He will be produced before the district court on Sunday and the investigation will continue after a 5-day extension, informed Parsa Police Spokesperson DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet.
Bananas are in high demand during the ongoing Chhath festival. Traders use pesticides on bananas to ripen raw bananas faster.
