Saptari's Rajbiraj Customs Office has not been able to collect even 20 percent of revenue in the first three months of the current fiscal year. The customs office, which had set a total annual target of Rs 81.715 crore, has collected only 18.51 percent of revenue till Asoj.
According to the monthly target, only 59.90 percent of revenue was collected in Shrawan and 59.3 percent in Bhadra, while in Asoj, it increased to 103.44 percent.
Customs had set a target of 66.73 million in Shrawan, 68.46 million in Bhadra and 68.52 million in Asoj. Customs Information Officer Nayab Subba Vijay Kumar Sah said that the revenue collection has decreased due to the problem of transportation due to dilapidated roads, the absence of big traders and the lack of quarantine.
‘Stolen imports have also caused a decrease in revenue collection,’ he said, ‘Although we collected 103.44 percent of revenue as per the monthly target in Asoj, sometimes we are not able to reach it on time due to lack of manpower even after getting a tip-off.’
