Preparations have begun in ponds, rivers and lakes for Chhath, which is considered the main festival of Mithila, informed Dhruv Raya, a cultural expert from Jaleshwor Municipality-5. Since the worship of Surya and Chhathi Mata is done in water, cleaning, construction of ghats, filling of potholes and road repairs are being done in the reservoirs of Mithila, said Ward Chairman of Jaleshwor Municipality-8, Vijay Kumar Singh.
Chhath festival is considered a festival of loyalty and devotion in Mithila. Mayor of Jaleshwor Municipality, Suresh Sah Sonar, said that preparations have started a week ago as the people of Mithila celebrate this festival with great pomp.
A temple is being built in the middle of Pathak Pond in Jaleshwor Municipality-8 using bamboo and wood for the worship of Surya and Chhathi Mata, and a bamboo path that floats on water is being constructed to reach the temple. Keshav Jha, coordinator of the Chhath Puja Committee, informed that a five-hundred-meter-long cave pandal, various decorations and lights are being installed.
In Barun Sarovar of Jaleshwor Municipality-1, large pandals and colorful decorations are being set up all around for the Chhath festival, said Ward Chairman Anil Jha.
Similarly, in places like Matihani, Gaushala, Aurahi, Balwa, Loharpatti and other places in the district, preparations are being made in full swing in the rivers of those places, said Suman Kumar Lal Karna, coordinator of the District Coordination Committee.
