A bus caught fire on Wednesday morning near West Lachka in Chandrapur Municipality-4, Rautahat.
Although there were no casualties in the fire, the bus was completely burnt down. The bus, bearing the number Bagmati Province-2-03-001 Kha 5555, which was heading from Kathmandu to Chandrapur, caught fire on Wednesday morning due to a short circuit in the battery, police said.
According to Rautahat District Police DSP Raju Karki, the bus suddenly stopped after the brakes jammed and the bus caught fire shortly after. Police said that no casualties were reported as all the passengers got out as soon as the bus stopped.
Immediately after the incident, a fire engine was deployed with the help of the Area Police Office Chandranigahapur and locals to bring the fire under control.
The East-West Highway was blocked for some time due to the fire in the bus. Police said that further investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
