The District Police Office, Parsa, has destroyed abandoned firecrackers worth Rs. 1.2 million, which were seized during inspections by police teams deployed at various locations on different dates, on the premises of the District Police Office.

Parsa Police Spokesperson DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet informed that the items were destroyed in the presence of local people's representatives and media persons.

Firecrackers are smuggled into Nepal from India for entertainment during Tihar and Chhath festivals.

Since they are freely available and cheap in the Indian market, there is widespread smuggling of firecrackers through this border point every year during this season. Firecrackers imported from here also reach the federal capital Kathmandu.
