Hrishikesh Gautam, a former Congress leader from Bara, known for his fearless and tough nature, passed away on Saturday.

Gautam, 86, who had been living in Kathmandu with his permanent home in Kalaiya-4, recently passed away in Kathmandu, said his neighbor, 80-year-old leftist leader Gauri Shankar Gaud. Gautam, who had spent several times in prison during the Panchayat period, was a founding member of the Nepali Sangh, became the president of the Bara Congress, and after democracy, was a member of the House of Representatives twice from Bara Constituency No. 3 and once a minister without portfolio.

Leader Gaud said that with the death of Gautam, who made an incomparable contribution to democracy, the district has lost an honest and capable leader.
