In the three days of the campaign, more than 188,000 people have taken the cholera vaccine in Parsa. According to District Health Office Officer Jaymod Thakur, 188,516 people have been vaccinated from Sunday to Tuesday.
Currently, this campaign has been intensified from the ward level and even in schools. The aim is to complete the campaign before the holidays of Tihar and Chhath festivals in schools . He said that while the common people in urban areas are unable to get vaccinated due to their busy schedule, most of them in rural areas have taken the vaccine.
Parsama from Sunday Vaccination campaign against cholera has been started. Anyone above one year of age can receive the vaccine. This campaign has been conducted in all 14 local levels of Parsa. Out of the 16 municipalities of neighboring Baraka, this campaign is being conducted in Kalaiya, Jitpursimra, Parwanipur, Prasauni, Feta and Vishrampur which are connected to Birganj Metropolitan Municipality.
The Ministry of Health and Population requested vaccination from the International Coordination Group on Immunization (ICG) to control the spread of cholera in Birganj. This campaign has been conducted in two districts under the leadership of Family Welfare Division with the technical support of World Health Organization and UNICEF.
The Euvicol-S vaccine is 82 percent effective two weeks after a single dose. Vaccination campaign was started after the outbreak of cholera spread in different areas of Parsa including Birganj Metropolitan City from last August 6th was not fully controlled. It is believed that the vaccination campaign will play an important role in protecting the residents of the affected area from the disease and preventing the spread of the epidemic in other areas.
652 thousand 129 people of Parsa district will be vaccinated with EuVicol-S in the campaign that will be conducted until October 2nd. To make the campaign effective, 1,950 vaccination centers have been established in 14 municipalities of the district. The centers include local municipality offices, ward offices, government and private hospitals, community and private schools, colleges, government offices, non-governmental organizations, temples, mosques, churches, monasteries, bus parks, Nepal-India border crossings and industrial factories. In campaign 1 thousand 544 female health volunteers and 350 health workers, a total of 1 thousand 894 human resources have been mobilized. 1 million 18 thousand 100 doses of vaccine have been brought for Parsa and Bara.
Cholera infection was confirmed in three people for the first time in Birgunj on August 6. So far, 1 thousand 567 people with diarrhea and cholera have come for treatment in different hospitals of Birganj, and 227 of them have been confirmed to have cholera infection. Apart from this, cholera infection has been confirmed in 18 people in Pokhria Municipality. From the tests conducted so far, no cholera bacteria have been found in the water collected from different places in Birgunj. Even after a month and a half, the source of the infection has not been found.
