One and a half months after the cholera infection was detected, the vaccination program against cholera will be conducted in all 14 local levels of Parsa including Birganj Metropolitan Municipality.
District Health Office Parsa organized on Saturday in Birgunj, information was given about the vaccination campaign program that will start from Sunday in the orientation program of the district level stakeholders on the implementation of the vaccination campaign against the epidemic of cholera disease.
World Health Organization Nepal doctor Dr. Pawan Upadhyay said that the World Health Organization is going to conduct this campaign in coordination with the District Health Office. This program is being conducted simultaneously at all 14 local levels in Parsa from Sunday to October 2. Upadhyay also said that this program is going to be conducted at half a dozen local levels including Baraka Kalaiya and Jitpur Simra sub-metropolitan cities, Parwanipur, Prasauni, Feta and Bishrampur rural municipalities connected to Parsa.
He said that everyone above the age of 1 can take this vaccine. He claimed that this vaccine, which can be taken orally, will be effective up to 80 percent for 1 year.
District Health Office Parsa officer Jaymod Thakur said that around 250 people including the chief district officer and high-ranking government officials will formally inaugurate the program at the district administration office on Sunday. For the vaccination program, the same manpower will be employed during the previous vaccination program. He said that the target is to give this vaccine to 652 thousand 129 people in Parsa district.
Stating that this vaccine can be taken from designated centers and home visiting programs, Thakur also claimed that this vaccine is safe. He said that the aim is to give this vaccine to those who enter Nepal from India, service receivers who come to government offices such as courts, and passengers who are met at bus parks.
Thakur said that 1,567 people with diarrhea and cholera had come for treatment at different hospitals in Birgunj since 5th August, and 227 of them were confirmed to have cholera infection. Apart from that, cholera infection has been confirmed in 18 people in Pokharia Municipality as well, he said.
According to the tests conducted so far, no cholera bacteria was found in the water collected from different places in Birganj.
