Last Friday, five Paswan families of Dalit community, who were living in the public pool of Arang, Kalyanpur Municipality-8 in Siraha, were abused and vandalized and looted at their house. Due to the attack, their houses are not even habitable.
A group of about 50 people who came suddenly destroyed the grain crops in the houses of local princes Paswan, Raslal Paswan, Ashok Paswan, Binde Paswan and Sovit Paswan and looted jewelry and cash. After the incident, the police registered a case under criminal nuisance against 13 people on Saturday.
District Police Office, Chief Superintendent of Police, Siraha, Anantaram Sharma said that a complaint has been registered against local residents Prabhas Singh, Nitesh Singh, Shailendra Singh, Rajkumar Singh, Kailash Singh, Ganesh Kamati, Mustafa Rain, along with Kalyanpur-8 Ward President Ram Kishore Yadav elected from Nepali Congress.
Out of which the police have already arrested Ganesh and Kailash along with ward president Yadav and are looking for others. Superintendent of Police Sharma said that they are being investigated under the custody of Mirchaiya area police office. He said that although a complaint has been registered against only 13 people under the same heading, cases and people may increase during the investigation. 
"We have filed a complaint against the people who are now open to investigate the incident," Sharma told Kantipur, "we are doing a detailed investigation, the number of cases and people may increase." In which there was a dispute between the Prabhas group and the youth of Paswan Tol . During the dispute, the Dalit community filed a complaint with the police after threatening to stage an uprising.
Rajkumar Paswan, the victim, said that he filed a complaint at the local police office, Mirchaiya on October 3 after they threatened to drive him away from here saying that he wanted to become a big Dalit. However, they did not attend the discussion despite taking time many times and attacked the houses of the Dalit community.
It has been revealed from the preliminary investigation of the police that the ward president Yadav has incited them. The police also received a letter written by ward president Yadav to Kalyanpur municipality on October 5 that the land where the Dalit community is living has been made public and that the land should be vacated.
However, the municipality said that the letter was not implemented due to the Dalit community being squatters. After being ignored by the municipality, a police officer involved in the investigation said that Yadav played an internally supportive role in the opposition's plan to vandalize the houses of Dalits.
Even though the state agencies have shown vigilance for the legal treatment of the victim's family, their daily life is going through a difficult time. The chief district officer of Siraha, the head of the security agency, and the municipal team, who visited the victim's family on Saturday, provided the victim with foodstuff and tripal for the time being.
However, even though it gives general relief, the victims are forced to spend the night with a tarpaulin on the roof of the collapsed house . "There is no place to live, no place to cook," said the victim Sanjudevi Paswan, "There are small children, sometimes we don't know what will come to the house, we are only awake at night."
Binde Paswan, the victim, said that they need a long-term solution. "We are poor people, we don't have the power to build a house by ourselves," he told Kantipur, "It is very difficult to live in such a house for many days, we need a long-term solution." Social activist Manoj Kumar Paswan said that due to the incompetence of the state and the state agencies, the oppression of Dalits has not stopped and warned that if there is any manipulation in this incident too, they will launch a strong struggle .
"Such incidents happen time and again, but instead of taking action against the culprits, the state agencies come under their influence, that's why such incidents keep happening," he said.
