Birganj Branch of Drug Administration Department has closed 156 drug shops in the last financial year. Shops that did not come through the registration process and showed other conditions were closed.

Last year alone, the office suspended 122 drug shops. According to the head of the office, Shambhu Sah, the Anuganam team has taken action in the districts under Madhesh and Bagmati provinces.  

Out of the 122 pharmacies that were suspended during the monitoring, there were 2 wholesalers, eight different hospitals and 112 community-run drug stores. After monitoring, 12 drug stores, 7 hospital and 5 community, have been registered.

It was found that 92 drug stores were not registered during the monitoring process last year. 183 unregistered medicines were seized from 110 stores, including 1 wholesale, 7 hospitals, and 102 unregistered drugs where the businessperson/pharmacist was absent.

Similarly, records of narcotic and psychoactive drugs were not kept from 76 drug stores, vaccines were not stored at proper temperature in 33 stores, expired drugs were stored in 13 stores, and "physician sample" drugs were recovered from 7 stores.

In the last year, the office set a target of 450 pharmacies inspection, which is 8 percent more than the target, i.e. 486 pharmacies i.e. drug stores were successfully inspected, Chief Sah said. Among them, 431 allopathic, 25 Ayurvedic, 27 veterinary, and 3 homeopathic drug stores were inspected.

Apart from Saptari and Sirha in Madhesh, 6 districts and Chitwan, Makwanpur and Sindhuli in Bagmati are 9 districts of this office.
