Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality has decided to amend the allocated budget for the current financial year 2082/83 and spend it on reconstruction. The special session (Special City Assembly) held on Saturday unanimously passed the proposal regarding reconstruction.

During the demonstration on August 24, the entire structure including the office building of the metropolitan city was destroyed by arson, vandalism and looting. Seeing the need to prioritize reconstruction in order to continue providing services to the residents, the Municipal Council has decided to revise the current year's budget and invest in the project.

Metropolitan Chief Rajeshman Singh submitted the revised budget in a special council meeting. The 17th City Council of the metropolis had previously brought a budget of 3.22 billion 48 lakh 49 thousand rupees for the financial year 2082/83. Within that budget, the decision to transfer the money allocated to city level capital plan, social development program and ward level plan towards reconstruction was made by the special session.

After this amendment, about 30 million rupees will be available for reconstruction. The revised budget provides for the construction of administrative buildings, purchase of vehicles, purchase of machinery equipment, laptops, computers, printers and furniture, repair of office buildings, car rental, purchase of electricity and other necessary materials. Through the revised budget, the reconstruction of the city, the re-establishment of physical structures and the enhancement of administrative capacity will be carried out immediately.

The special session also unanimously passed a proposal to provide five lakh rupees to the family of young Asahab Alam of Birganj Metropolitan City-12 who was shot by the police during the demonstration in Kathmandu during the Gen-G movement.
