Amid ongoing efforts for prevention, cholera infection is increasing in Parsa. The number of infected in the district has now reached close to 200. According to the latest data released by the office of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality at 5 pm on Tuesday, the number of cholera infected people in Birgunj Metropolitan area alone has reached 180. 11 of them are still undergoing treatment in different hospitals. 169 have been discharged and returned home.

As of Tuesday evening, 913 diarrhea and cholera patients have come in contact with various hospitals in Birganj. Out of them, 843 have been discharged and returned home. 70 people are still undergoing treatment in different hospitals. 37 new patients of diarrhea and cholera have been added in 24 hours.

Among the diarrhea patients who came in contact with Pokhria Hospital, the number of cholera infected has reached 17. Now the number of cholera infected in the district has reached 197 in Birgunj and Pokharia.

Narayani Hospital spokesperson Dr. Udayanarayan Singh said that in the previous years, 8 to 10 diarrheal patients were coming to this hospital for treatment every day in this season, so this year the same ratio and a few more patients are coming. He said that currently patients with diarrhea and cholera are being treated free of charge. He said that there are some patients who return home after one or two hours of treatment.

Daily statistics show that the rate of admission of new patients and the rate of returning home after treatment are the same, but the trend of new patients not stopping is becoming a matter of concern. In order to prevent the spread of the disaster, the office of the Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality has closed all the educational institutions here for a week till Tuesday.

Even after the long efforts of governmental and non-governmental organizations, the real source of cholera in Birganj has not been ascertained yet. As expected at the beginning, according to the results of various laboratories, no cholera bacteria were found in the drinking water institute and deep boring water in Birganj metropolis. In such a state of confusion, the general public is also confused and suspicious.
