Cholera infection rate decreasing in Birgunj, increasing in Pokharia

In Parsama, where the outbreak of diarrhea and cholera has spread, the growth of cholera infection in Birganj metropolitan area is relatively low, but in Pokharia municipality, the rate of cholera infection has started to accelerate.

By 6 pm on Friday, the number of cholera infected people in Birganj metropolitan area has reached 153. This number was 143 at 6 pm on Thursday. 10 cholera infected have been added in Birganj within 24 hours.

On the other hand, 15 cholera infected people have been confirmed in Pokharia as well. In this way, the total number of cholera infected in Parsa district including Birgunj and Pokharia has reached 168. According to the latest data released by the Birganj Metropolitan Municipality office, 59 out of 153 cholera infected people in the metropolitan area alone are being treated in various hospitals here. Out of the total infected, 94 people have been discharged.

The rate of confirmed cholera infection among patients who came to Pokhria Hospital in Pokhria municipality is high. By Friday evening, the number of infected has reached 15. According to the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Anand Rauniyar, 25 patients with diarrhea have come in contact with the hospital for the past four days, and 15 of them have been confirmed to have cholera infection. He said that only 2 patients were admitted to the hospital on Friday and both were infected with cholera. 13 people have been discharged and referred elsewhere.

Out of a total of 697 diarrhea and cholera patients who came in contact in different hospitals of Birganj metropolitan area, 504 patients have been discharged from the hospital and have returned home. 193 are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals. 

According to the spokesperson of the District Health Crisis Management Committee, Sumanchandra Thakur, until now cholera has been confirmed in Virgunj and Pokharia through RDT tests. In the case of Birgunj, most of the confirmed infected are from Ward No. 3, 11, 12, 13 and 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City.
