84 people lost their lives in road accidents in Saptari last year. According to District Traffic Police Office Shambhunath, last year there were 1,172 accidents. 12 women and 69 men died in that accident, including three children.

In the same accident, 1,420 people including 173 children, 311 women and 946 men were injured. Last year, road accidents increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year, and the number of deaths increased by 47 percent compared to the previous year, according to traffic police office data.

Last year, 56 people including four children lost their lives in road accidents. 1,51 people were injured in 885 accidents. According to the data of the office, the highest number of motorcycle accidents occurred in both years.

Even though the traffic police conducted a public awareness program to control road accidents, it has not been effective. Last year alone, the police office conducted 2,146 programs targeting students, drivers, co-drivers, general public and youth. However, road accidents have not decreased.

Even as the number of road accidents is increasing, the number of drivers who violate the traffic rules has decreased sharply in the data of the police office. In the fiscal year 079/080, when the revenue of 25.3 million 56 thousand 500 was collected by punishing the drivers who violated the traffic rules, last year only 50 percent of the revenue was collected.

Last year only 1 crore 27 lakh 93 thousand 501 rupees were collected while the previous year 1 crore 77 lakh 92 thousand 600 rupees were collected .
