Concern has been expressed that although women are in leadership positions in Madhesh province, they are not participating in meaningful governance. The participants of the two-day training on social responsibility for promoting gender responsive and inclusive governance organized by the Women's Rehabilitation Center (OREC) Nepal in partnership with UN Women and Birganj Metropolitan Municipality on Saturday expressed this concern.

In the training where Krishna Kumar Sah, Rita Sah, Vina Singh and Kamala Pokharel were the main trainers, the participants said that the condition of women in Madhesh province is still not satisfactory compared to other provinces. They said that although women are in leadership positions, they do not participate meaningfully in governance. The participants said that women do not have access to planning and implementation.

trainer Krishna Kumar Sah said that out of 136 local levels in Madhesh, there are only 124 women in the city head and deputy head and rural village head and deputy head. He also informed that only four out of 136 municipalities have female heads.

16 percent Dalits, 15 percent Yadavs, 16 percent Vaishyas, 6 percent tribals and 9 percent Paharis make up the population of Madhesh, while at the local level, 29 percent Yadavs, 29 percent Vaishyas, 6 percent tribals, and 9 percent Paharis participate, but only 0.75 percent of Dalits participate, he said. 45 people including representatives of various organizations, people working in the field of women and human rights, sexual and gender minorities, people with disabilities, sex workers, and single women are participating in the

training. Trainer Bina Singh said Orek Nepal has conducted this program at 15 local levels, 3 in Parsa of Madhesh, 1 in Bara, 5 in Rautahat, 2 in Dhanush, 3 in Siraha and 1 in Saptari.
