Singh was found guilty by a special court in a corruption case some time ago when he was the chairman of the Water Users Committee of the then Manusmara Irrigation Project.
Surendra Prasad Singh, chairman of Congress Sarlahi, who was found to be corrupt, has resigned from the post.
District President Singh submitted his resignation letter to Party Central Vice President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Singh has mentioned that he resigned by accepting the order given by the court in the case filed against him. He has also stated that he has been wronged and will continue his legal fight for this.
Singh was found guilty by a special court in a corruption case some time ago when he was the chairman of the Manusmara irrigation project water user committee. Upholding the special verdict, the Supreme Court also decided to imprison him for four months and 15 days and to pay a fine of Rs. 23 million.
Even after the verdict of the Supreme Court, Singh was working as the chairman.
The leaders of the other party went to the central party office of Sanepa and sat on dharna because the district president Singh did not resign even though he was declared corrupt by the court. After the pressure from the center and even the party leaders in the district did not stop demanding his resignation repeatedly, Singh submitted his resignation after meeting the party chairman Deuba.
Even though Singh from the founding party has resigned from the chairmanship, the acting district chairman has yet to be appointed.
