An inmate of Birganj Jail, who fell unconscious while doing physical exercise in the prison gym, died at Narayani Hospital in Birganj on Tuesday during treatment.
The deceased is 28-year-old Rahul Kumar Sah Turaha of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality-17 Khalwatol. According to Jailer Khemraj Bhushal, prisoner Turaha fell unconscious while doing physical exercise in the prison around 8:30 in the morning.
He was immediately sent to Narayani Hospital for treatment along with a team of prison officers and health workers. Turaha, who was serving a 25-year sentence in a murder case, arrived in prison in 2079.
Parsa Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra said that Turaha had a heart attack. He said that he fell unconscious while doing physical exercise in the prison.
"When brought to the hospital, the patient's blood pressure was low and blood and white phlegm were coming from the mouth," said Dr. Singh. Dr. Turaha died in the ventilator of the emergency room. Singh said.
In young age group people, especially during excessive physical exercise, there is a sudden heart failure and this is also a repetition of the same incident, he said. He said that prisoner Turaha died at 9:30 in the morning.
Earlier, a journalist and another Superintendent of Armed Police also died in the same way in Birganj, he said. After the incident, the relatives of the deceased prisoner protested that despite their demands, Turaha was not referred to another hospital and the treatment was not started on time.
They also burned tires on the road in front of the hospital and shouted slogans. Superintendent of Police Mishra said that efforts are being made to communicate with the deceased.
