After three days of regular rains, planting has increased in Parsa. Farmers who could not plant due to lack of water in the fields are now busy planting paddy.

According to the data of Krishi Gyan Kendra Parsa, on average 90 percent planting has been completed in the district by Tuesday. Ramjeevan Thakur, head of the center, said that 92 percent of the planting has been completed in some local levels and 94 percent in some.

Comparatively, the planting in Birgunj metropolitan area has decreased a bit . But Thakur says that there is a possibility that the farmers will plant 100% within this week.

He said that the planting could be completed by Saturday as the farmers started planting by boring or other alternatives in the fields where there is lack of irrigation.

Thakur says that there is a possibility of cultivating 39,000 to 40,000 hectares of paddy this year in Parsa. Last year also, annual rice crop was cultivated in this vicinity.

Paddy is the major crop of the district . Paddy is cultivated as the main crop in all the 14 local levels of the district. Thakur predicts that there will not be much reduction in the production of paddy crop this year as it is still raining.
