June and July are the months of paddy planting. Farmers and rice planters are very busy in these two months. However, this year there was no activity in the fields. The reason is that Madhesh remained dry and suffering from drought.
Farmers planted as much rice as possible in places with irrigation facilities. However, the farmers remained under stress as the rice planted by the drought was destroyed. However, the rain that fell from Saturday midnight to Sunday morning has become a nightmare for the farmers.
The rain has brought greenness to the paddy which is about to be scorched by drought and sun. Due to the lack of water, the farmers who could not cultivate this year as it is about to end in July, planted all day on Sunday.
Ram Ashish Yadav, a farmer of Golbazar Municipality-4 Nipane in Siraha, cultivates paddy on 3 to 4 bigha of land every year. However, due to lack of water this year, he has already planted paddy in one bigha on Sunday.
'Earlier, I could sow paddy in June, but this year, as there was no chance of rain, the hope was dead,' he said to Kantipur in a cheerful manner, 'The night rain has become a blessing for us, today one bigha was planted, tomorrow it will be two/three bighas in Parsi .'
Like him, Swaroop Mahato, a farmer from Dhangadhimai Municipality-13 Varleni, also looked happy in the field on Sunday afternoon. He said that most of the farmers in this area have planted seeds only today.
'Where there is irrigation, there was only a small amount of paddy planting,' he told Kantipur, 'After the night rain, all the farmers have planted paddy today, planting will continue for two/three days.'
Like them, farmers from all parts of Siraha were busy planting paddy all day on Sunday. Bishnu Prasad Yadav of Mirchaiya said that this rain has not only saved the paddy fields that have already been planted, but also provided great relief to the farmers who could not plant paddy.
According to Krishi Gyan Kendra Siraha, rice has been cultivated in an area of 54 thousand hectares in the district. In which till last Friday only 50 percent of the area was cultivated by the data center.
