Farmers of Gaushala-12 Padaria have laid pipes to irrigate paddy fields. But deep tubewell borings are damaged and they are unable to irrigate due to non-repair. Farmers are worried after the paddy starts drying up.

The borehole installed under the budget of Kamala irrigation porta has broken down in the main season. Farmers are in trouble as there is no initiative for maintenance.

Treasurer of Tubewell Boring Operation Committee Ram Shovit Mahato informed that there is a problem with the motor and it will take 4-5 days to make. Pipeline needs to be installed in Ram Janki Water User Committee Gaushala-12 in Padaria, Marlahi Dhar Deep Tubewell Water User Committee needs to be cleaned . Other active deep tube wells are also awaiting repair .

Gaushala municipality ward no. 1 out of 3 farmers' deep boring submersibles have not been operational due to lack of motor and wire. Ward no. 3 deep tube wells and 3 borings in 6 are also submersible and could not be used due to lack of meter connection, said Devanand Rai Yadav, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center, Jaleshwar Mahottari. According to him, currently, the cost of borings across the district including Gaushala is being collected.

In Gaushala municipality, boring is connected to the ward and city budgets every year. However, farmer Vidyanand Rai complained that the municipality did not inquire about whether the boreholes were operational or not after being connected.

Tube well boring has been installed by spending lakhs of grants, but in some places it has not been able to operate due to lack of electricity, and in some places irrigation has not been possible due to lack of budget for maintenance .

Gaushala-11 Local Devinder Singh said that the deep tube well installed with the budget of Kamala irrigation port in Lakshminiya toll did not meet the standards of electricity authority and farmers were deprived of irrigation during drought.

Committees formed to operate deep tube wells have been collecting high fees from farmers. But there is no account of the amount collected . When it gets damaged, there is a lack of budget for repairs. Deep boring has become useless when the local, state and federal governments come up with new plans but do not provide the budget to operate the old plans.

Meanwhile, the chief district officer of Mahottari, Narayan Prasad Risal, has started collecting the details of the state of borings across the district and the expenses required to bring them into operation. On Monday, he said, "The problem of irrigation is complex" after meeting with the heads of Agricultural Knowledge Center, Water Resources and Irrigation Development Division, Water Supply Office and Electricity Authority. But we have activated the relevant office to conduct boring.'

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who came to Mahottari last Friday, promised to install 500 deep borings immediately to solve the crisis of drinking water and irrigation in Madhes. But currently connected deep boring has not been operational.
