Joginder Sah of Fatuwavijaypur-1 Sheetalpur was 68 years old. As the field became barren due to drought, he installed boring (pump set) and planted it in the last week of May. Now they are helping the surrounding neighbors by giving water from the same boring. The surrounding people have also started planting in a hurry. Farmers in this area have now started installing boreholes in the fields after not being able to plant the fields due to rain.
He said that he faced such a drought for the first time in his old age. Every year, planting could be done in the last week of May and the first week of June. But this time it didn't rain at all," he said, "I spent 50,000 and installed a borehole. Now I am helping by giving water to the neighbor's farm. He has a two bigha farm. The paddy in his field is turning green . But the fields of several neighbors around are barren. Those who are not boring are planting by paying money and buying water. Like him, many farmers are not able to bear the pain. The field to eat all year round is barren. The condition of the farmers who have no choice but to stare at the sky is dire.
Terai-Madhesh is currently suffering from drought. Even the paddy planted in the field has started to dry slowly . There are cracks on the ground . The government itself has declared a disaster. A technical team has also been mobilized to study the situation. Farmers are angry saying that the team only watches. Surendra Prasad Kurmi, head of Krishi Gyan Kendra Gaur, informed that till now more than 60 percent planting has been done in Rautahat through boring and Bagmati irrigation. Farming should be done in sky and water. Now due to the drought, farmers are taking the help of boring," he said, "no matter how much water is used to plant rice, water from the sky is needed. Otherwise, the rice harvest will be very less.' Chief Kurmi said that if planting is not done from June 15 to July 15, the rice harvest will be very less.
According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, out of the 18 municipalities of the district, Fatuwawijaipur, Ishanath, Paroha, Boudhimai, Rajpur, Moulapur municipalities have been cultivating under sky water. In the rest of the municipalities, Bagmati irrigation, farmers have planted fields with the water of Lalbakaia. As the underground water level is decreasing, now the locals are paying attention to the protected natural ponds and water runoff in the Chure area. The rice seeds prepared for planting by the farmers, who are forced to plant under the sky, have been destroyed by half of the seeds . Farmers are worried after the seeds dry up . According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, Rautahat has 38,500 hectares of arable land. The chief laborer informed that 4.2 metric tons of paddy would be produced per hectare if planted on time.
