The four-legged skin infection 'lumpy skin' has spread in four local levels of Saptari. The infection has been seen in Rupni, Rajgarh, Bishnupur and Balan Bihul Rural Municipality for the past two weeks.
Due to 'lumpy skin', one calf each of Brahamdev Yadav and Bhuvaneshwar Sah of Rupni rural municipality-4 Bhathol has died, while more than two dozen cattle of Chhapki and Lakshmipur have been infected.
'We started the treatment when the calf was infected, but even after spending Rs 6,000, it was not cured,' said Sah, 'almost all four-legged animals here are infected. Despite informing the municipality, arrangements for treatment have not been made.'
Dhanjit Kumar Khadga, Veterinary Deputy Coordinator of the rural municipality, said that coordination is being done with the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Center for infection control. The municipality's technical team is also engaged in treatment. We have also sent a written letter to the provincial hospital,' he said.
Bishnupur Rural Municipality-1 Khuruhuria and Rajgarh Rural Municipality-5 Malekpur in the same region JT Santosh Kumar Yadav, a local veterinarian of Chaupaya, is giving first aid. According to him, 41,500 cattle were vaccinated against 'lumpy skin' in the district last year. However, he says that there is a problem because the vaccine ran out before July.
