After the supply of nutritious milk 'F100', which has been fed to malnourished children for five months, has been exhausted, the central administration has started giving 'RUTF' i.e. 'Ready to Use Therapeutic Food' to the dependent malnourished children at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center in Birgunj.

Sarita Yadav, head of the center, said that five months ago, after the stock of 'F 100' milk was exhausted, since the milk did not come from the center, 'RUTF', which is considered as its alternative, was started.

'RUTF is considered as an alternative to F100,' she said, 'one packet of it contains 500 calories including the amount of nutrition needed by malnourished children.' She said that 'RUTF' is also given regularly along with pulses, rice, vegetables, milk, curd, fish, meat, vegetables, fruits etc.

'This milk was being provided by the Health Department under the Federal Ministry of Health,' she said, 'We used to bring this milk regularly from the department's store at Pathalaiya, now the stock of milk has run out in that store as well.'

Yadav says that according to the latest standards of the World Health Organization, it is determined that there is a problem of malnutrition in children who do not have a weight according to their height. She said that the height of a newborn baby should be at least 50 cm, and then the height of the baby should be 25 cm the next year, 12.5 cm the next year, and 12.5 cm the following year. She said that children usually have three types of malnutrition such as obesity and malnutrition, low weight according to age and lack of micronutrients.

Malnourished children from Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi and even India come for treatment in the home with 10 beds. At present, 6 malnourished children are dependent in the center .
