Farmers have blocked the east-west highway at Lalbandi in Sarlahi since Sunday morning after traders did not buy vegetables.

After the traders did not buy the vegetables brought to the agricultural produce collection center in Lalbandi for sale, the farmers stood on the highway with their own vegetables. Farmers say that they were forced to come to the highway after the vegetable traders did not buy them. On the other hand, when the highway is blocked, there is a queue of long-distance vehicles. Passengers are suffering.

President of Agricultural Produce Collection Center Pramed Thapalia informed that because the municipality has imposed an export tax, the traders are not buying the vegetables of the farmers. He said that in the previous discussion between the city head, party representatives and traders, there was an agreement to decide on the new tax to be implemented from July by the city council, but because it was not implemented, vegetables could not be purchased.

Lalbandi market is especially famous for producing vegetables such as tomato and beedi. Fresh vegetables produced here are sent from the capital Kathmandu to various big cities of the country. Millions of vegetables are exported daily from Lalbandi.
