Due to the lack of budget management for the construction of the beli bridge, the plan to construct the beli bridge on the Tilabe river near the approach road of the Gandak canal has stalled. The road department called for tenders for the construction of this Belybridge last year.
Medant/Mohammed Islam, a joint venture company, won the contract for Rs. But since the budget for Belibridge construction is not guaranteed, the Belibridge construction plan has become uncertain.
Engineer and Information Officer of Narayani Irrigation Management Office Birgunj Suresh Prasad Sah said that the construction work of the bridge could not be accelerated since there was no budget allocation for the bridge from the Federal Ministry of Physical Infrastructure last year. "According to the technical design given by the office, the road department called for a tender for the Bely Bridge," said Engineer Shah, "The contractor company was preparing to start the work of connecting the Bely Bridge, but in the end, there was no budget for the bridge."
The RCC bridge of the Tilabe river near the canal was damaged by the flood in June last year. Narayani Irrigation Management Office has stopped traffic from the bridge in view of the possible danger after damage to the pillars of the bridge. But pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists are still using this bridge. As the use of the bridge has not been stopped, the possibility of accidents has increased . If there is further damage to this bridge, there is a possibility that the siphon of the Gandak canal will also be damaged and the canal system will be completely blocked.
In 1975 and 1976, India constructed and handed over the Gandak Canal and its related structures to the Government of Nepal. The canal that enters Nepal from Janaki Tola in Parsa and merges with Bagmati in Rautahat is called East Canal. At that time, this 81 km long canal aimed to irrigate 31 thousand 400 hectares of land in 3 districts namely Parsa, Bara and Rautahat.
The approach road built along the canal and the bridge on that road have been used by the residents of all the three districts as an alternative to the postal road. The federal government has also tarred the approach road from Rautahat to Parsa. However, in this process, dilapidated bridges were repaired or new bridges were not built in place of the three. After the road has been paved, the use of this road has increased. This has increased the load on dilapidated bridges. But due to excessive use, all the bridges have become dilapidated due to non-maintenance of the river bridges on the approach roads.
Until 2046, the approach road of the canal was used by the office only for its private purposes, but after the political change, this road was opened for public use.
