Baidyanath Das, in-charge of Sarlahi-based area police office Hirapur and deputy inspector of police, has been suspended for demanding money from smugglers.

After the telephone conversation with the smuggler was made public, Das was released from responsibility. Das was taken to the Barathawa area police office after the negotiations broke out on Friday morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai, Spokesperson of the District Police Office, said further investigation is being carried out regarding the telephone audio between the trafficker and Police Deputy Inspector Das and informed that it has been suspended. 

In the public audio, police sub-inspector Das is heard asking a smuggler for Rs 18,000 to help him in the smuggling operation. Das was previously suspended for demanding bribes while working in Parsa district.
