Yagya was performed in Veerganj on Wednesday to worship the god of rain or water. Even after the end of June, there is no monsoon rain in Parsa and Bara. Yagya is performed here to solve the water problem.
On Wednesday, there was a different atmosphere outside the famous Shaktipith Gahwamai temple in Birganj. Chairman of Gahwa Mai Mandir Management Committee Narendra Sah, senior member of the committee and member of Constituent Assembly Rajendra Bahadur Amatya, general secretary of the committee Advocate Vijay Kumar Upadhyay were performing Havan in the Rain Yagya. Shivjikumar Sah, office secretary of the committee, said that the Yajna, which started at 8 in the morning, ended at 3 in the afternoon.
The water has started to dry up in the chapakals that have been receiving continuous rain for years is The fields are barren. The heat has increased rapidly due to lack of rain. Common people are forced to buy mineral and bottled water. 58-year-old Sushil Aryal, a resident of Birgunj-13 Tejarath toll, said that he had experienced such a water shortage in Birgunj for the first time in his lifetime. "Actually, this problem has been seen since 3 years ago," he said, "but this year, this problem has been seen in a big way."
This problem is seen not only in the district headquarters Birganj but also in the rural areas of the district. Locals have said that this problem has also appeared in the neighboring Bara district.
Most of the chapakals attached to the house have dried up. A crowd of residents of the city is now seen at the Birgunj branch of the drinking water company to connect the taps of the drinking water company so that water will flow easily. Branch chief Praveen Kumar Sah said that since last 12 days, there has been a delay in applying for new water supply.
During this period, a total of 400 water lines were connected and 5,000 meters of pipes were installed, he said. "In 20 days, 3,000 phone calls and messages have been received from customers," he said. He said that the
office currently has only 1 contract and 5 salaried manpower and this manpower is able to connect 30 to 35 pipes daily. Earlier, 20 to 25 taps were installed per month, but now 30 to 35 taps are installed daily, he said.
He said that the locals are stealing 1,000 taps and using them in Chapkainya and Radhemai areas of Birganj where the demand for water is high. The office of Birgunj Metropolitan Corporation is working to install boreholes in various wards of the metropolis for the convenience of the locals. But that is not enough.
Federal water supply minister Pradeep Yadav's constituencies and districts have seen this problem more, so the residents of the district are hoping for relief from him. He is also trying to solve the problem by coming to Birgunj and going door to door in the wards. But even that is not enough. The lack of drinking water has affected the daily life of the locals.
Those who grew up playing with water in Terai are now worried about having to rely on mineral water and jars. Sardar Jaspal Singh, President of Prakriti Seva Pratishthan Nepal, says that there is no alternative to tree plantation and protection of wetlands to solve the water problem in the long term.
