A pedestrian has died after being hit by a City Safari in Chinnamasta Rural Municipality-1 Barhi Birpur of Saptari.
City Safari number 1H 909, which was going from Rajviraj to Lokharam, hit 40-year-old Kusheshwar Marik of Bishnupur Rural Municipality-4 Kankatta in the district on Friday night.
When the seriously injured Marik was brought to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital Rajviraj for treatment at night, the doctor declared him dead.
The police have seized the City Safari, but the driver is absconding. The family of the deceased has filed a complaint against the city driver in the case of duty killing on Saturday. They alleged that the accident happened because the city was driving without lights on at night and that the police helped the driver to drive away after the accident.
Police station Barhi Birpur is located at a distance of one and a half kilometers from the accident site. However, the family of the deceased says that even when the police arrived at the time of the accident, the driver was not arrested.
DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet, information officer of the district police office, said that the search for the city driver is underway. "We have handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem," he said, adding, "Further investigation is underway into the accident."
