Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh on Monday evening inspected the road section from the dry port of Birganj to Parwanipur. In that process, three people who collected vehicle tax illegally were arrested.
Chief Minister Singh has followed up on complaints that more than the specified amount is being levied on vehicles imported from India, especially Indian vehicles.
Three people were immediately arrested after complaints were received of illegal extortion at various places on the road section from dry port to Parwanipur.
Those arrested were handed over to District Police Office Parsa. Chief Minister Singh said that the state government will have zero tolerance on such activities.
"People's complaints were heard, today we saw it live," Chief Minister Singh said in a brief response after the crackdown, "Illegal levy, forced confiscation of taxes and mistreatment of cross-border vehicles will no longer be tolerated."
