Repair work has been started on the broken embankment in Khando River located in Deuri Bharuwa, Rajviraj Municipality-15 of Saptari. Even though more than one and a half billion rupees were spent on river management, about 10 meters of embankment was not constructed at that place
After "Kantipur" published the news about the fear of flooding in 150 households of Deuri Bharuwa due to the non-construction of the embankment, the embankment repair work has started. Lalit Narayan Yadav, information officer of the Khando River Management Project, said, "We have started the repair work at that place immediately. We will also use geo bags to rebuild the embankment. Even though we do not have a budget for emergency work, the department has assured to send the budget."
The project established in 2072/073 with a seven-year time frame has not yet been able to effectively manage the river. Dhanraj Yadav, a 70-year-old local said that although the embankment repair work has been started in Deuri Bharuwa, there is still a risk of flooding due to the "raincut" that has occurred in half a dozen places to the south of the bridge. "The embankment repair work that needs to be done immediately is being done, but the embankment is in the same condition even 500 meters south of it," he said. Even though the project is claiming that 80 percent of the construction work has been completed, the embankment has collapsed in places.
