Postal Roads: 85% progress in four districts within a decade

In 4 districts of Madhesh province, the progress of postal road construction in 1 decade is 85 percent. In 4 districts of Rautahat, Bara, Parsa and Chitwan, the post road has not been completed in a decade.

The progress of postal road, which is considered the lifeline of Terai, is most in Parsa and Barama districts. As some of the remaining construction works in Rautahat and Chitwan districts could not be completed, the postal road work could not be completed 100 percent.

According to Engineer Dharmendra Kumar Das of Postal Highway Directorate Planning Office Birganj, the work of postal road has been started since 2070. During this period, among the four districts where the office is working, Chitwan is the district where the most work has not been done.

The work of the Thori-Madi 15 km road section in Chitwan under the postal road has not yet started. The DPR of this road section, which falls under Chitwan National National Park, has been prepared. The tender process after this has not yet started. In Chitwan's Patri river, the contractor Lohani and Brothers has not yet completed the work.

The contractor has done other work except erecting the pillars of the bridge which has only one span. Overall, only 14 percent of the work on the bridge has been progressed. The contract for the 41.2 meter long bridge was awarded by Lohani and Brothers for 38.4 million rupees 25 thousand 461 rupees.

Engineer Das said that the office has already withdrawn the guarantee amount and mobilization amount from the contractor company. 90% of the work has been completed on Ghanghar river, Baghi river and Balu river in Madi in Chitwan. 50% progress has been made on the 7 km road section of Hulaki road under construction in Madi.

Engineer Das says that the bridge has not yet been constructed over the Bagmati River in Rautahat under the Hulaki road. Earlier, after the work of the bridge contracted by Lumbini Builders could not be completed by the said contractor, for the second time Mahalakshmi/YP/Vikas joint venture company got the contract for the construction of the bridge. Only 20 percent progress has been made on the 634-meter-long bridge so far.

Engineer Das says that about 4 km of roads and 2 bridges are left to be constructed in Parsa's thori, and the rest of the work is likely to be completed in the coming year. He said that the office is trying its best to complete the remaining construction works in four districts as soon as possible. "The office will only look after the technical work," he said, "the federal government will manage the site and budget required for physical construction." After the construction of Hulaki road, the pressure especially on the east-west highway will reduce to a great extent.
