The 28 km long Chandranahar, which was put into operation in 1985, was irrigating a total of 10,500 hectares of land. However, since the canal is dilapidated, it is now difficult to irrigate even 50 percent of the 'command area', said Ekraj Bhattarai, head of Kosi Pump, Chandranahar Irrigation Management Office, Rajviraj, that the reconstruction work started by JICA will help to some extent.

'Under the Erston Tarai Rehabilitation Irrigation Project, the Japanese government is currently carrying out reconstruction works in Chandranahar,' he said, '32 structures will be built including 8 canal underpasses, 9 cross exits and 15 canal crossing bridges, and most of them have been prepared.' "There is a need for more structures, but due to the lack of budget, they have not been able to work," he added, "For that, the government of Nepal is trying to write a proposal." The technology and technology employed in the project, which is operated with an investment of two billion 256 million Japanese yen (two billion 154 million 93 thousand 720 Nepali rupees), are also from Japan.
