Due to lack of maintenance, 3 warehouses of former National Trading Limited under Birgunj Branch of Food Arrangement and Trade Company Limited in Birgunj have become unusable. Out of the total 13, 10 warehouses and administrative buildings have been leased by the company.

3 warehouses that fetch attractive rents have been vacant for 2 years due to lack of maintenance.  One of them has not been repaired after the roof of one of them was destroyed by a tree that fell with the wind last year. The roof of the other two godowns also leaked and they could not be rented.

Currently out of 10 leased warehouses, 7 warehouses are rented by Salt Trading Corporation Limited Regional Office Birgunj and 3 warehouses are rented by Agricultural Materials Company Limited Birgunj Regional Office for chemical fertilizer storage. Salt is paying Rs 4 lakh 31 thousand 250 per month for rent and Rs 1 lakh 24 thousand 25 per month for agricultural materials.

In addition, Madhesh University is paying a monthly rent of 289,829 rupees for the physical structure used as an administrative building. National Health Care Pvt Ltd, which is using the premises for bus parking, is paying Rs 14,641 per month and Birgunj College is paying Rs 9,990 per month.

In this way, the company is earning 8 lakh 96 thousand 645 rupees per month from rent alone. But due to non-repair of dilapidated godowns, huge amount of money is being lost annually.

Due to non-maintenance of the internal roads within the complex, even the government and private establishments that have rented there are having problems unloading their cargo loads. Especially during 3/4 months of the rainy season, internal roads are muddy and they suffer.

Pankaj Kumar Jha, Head of Veerganj Branch of Food Management and Trading Company Limited, said that due to lack of budget, the dilapidated godown could not be repaired. He said that this year, the Center has allocated a budget of 25 million rupees for the repair of the godown here and the construction of the internal roads of the premises.

"Tenders are being called for maintenance and road construction after June," he said, "probably after this year's rains, the warehouse repair and internal road construction work will start and the long-standing problem will end."
