Regulation of Coal Depots and Dealers in Birgunj started

Coal depots and dealers operating within the Birganj Metropolitan Municipality have started to be regulated. Metropolitan office has started regulation.

Navraj Phuyal, public relations officer of the metropolis, said that strict monitoring has been started to manage this business keeping in mind the public health and environmental concerns. "Even though the coal depot has been operating normally for a long time, there was a weakness in the management," he said, "Dust flying through the depot, black garbage spreading on the road, traffic coming from trucks and the way of storing coal were causing serious dissatisfaction among the local residents." discussion, Arvind Lal Karna, chief administrative officer of the metropolis, Satyaraj Ghimire, personal secretary of the metropolis chief, Rakesh Sah, head of the forest and environment division, Prakash Bahadur Air, Birgunj  Subhashish Adil, the representative of Pristine Valley, a dry port operator company, as well as the owners of various coal depots and dealers in Birgunj, participated.  He said that in the

discussion, there was a serious discussion about how the unmanaged coal depot has affected the daily life of the locals. "Especially children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems such as asthma and allergies are directly affected by the dust," he said. In the discussion, it was concluded that the environment of Birgunj has been affected due to the accumulation of garbage around it.

For a permanent solution to this problem, now the metropolis has decided to bring a legal framework to organize the coal depot, he said. Now all the depots and dealers must register their business in the metropolitan city and pay the property tax of the land used to store coal and the restored tax of the leased land to the metropolis. 

Taking into consideration the impact of depots on the environment, now all depots will have to undergo environmental impact assessment or preliminary environmental testing. In addition, a system has been implemented to pass the map from the metropolis for the structure of the depot, storage area and infrastructure. He said that it is expected to bring the depot within certain standards in every aspect of construction, management and operation. 

Similarly, to end the inconvenience caused to the nearby residents due to the dirt and dust visible on the roads and footpaths of the existing area, the responsibility of cleaning will now be given to the depot operator. He also said that if the owner fails to keep his area clean, action will be initiated through the city police and relevant agencies.
